Former Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo asked Victor Osimhen to stop his live outburst on Instagram against men’s national team coach Finidi George who has now resigned, QEDNG has learnt.
Osimhen was not available for the two World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin with an official explanation that he was injured and sidelined for four weeks.
But George singled the Napoli star out for criticism when he went to see sports minister John Enoch with some officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the poor results registered by the team in those matches.
A source was quoted by The Nation as saying, “The coach went on to say that it appears that Osimhen chooses the games he plays for Nigeria and he (George) cannot beg him to play for his country.”
Irritated by the former Ajax player’s comments, Osimhen got on Instagram live on Saturday morning, confronting those who question his commitment to the team.
He said George was aware of the injury and asked him to be with his family despite his insistence on being with the team in camp.
Ighalo joined the live session and urged Osimhen to calm down.
“Boy calm down and end the live,” the former Manchester United star wrote.
Ighalo’s comment has become topical among football enthusiasts on social media.
