Family, friends and colleagues on Wednesday joined former editor-in-chief and chief executive officer of Newswatch Magazine Ray Ekpu at the service of songs for his wife Uyai Ekpu.
Mrs Ekpu died aged 73 on April 21, 2024, after a brief illness.
The service of songs held in Lagos was officiated by pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Family members, school mates, colleagues, and friends like the former governor of Cross River State, Clement Ebri; businessman Biodun Shobanjo and former Newswatch Magazine editor-in-chief, Soji Akinrinade, attested to the warmth, culinary skills and virtuous nature of the departed.
Also present were the editor-in-chief of TheNiche Newspaper Ikechukwu Amaechi, and editor of Ovation Magazine Mike Effiong among others.
Ekpu gave a touching tribute at the event. He assured all that he would do his best to fill the void she has left behind in the lives of their three children and grandchildren.
The deceased was a senior staff member of the Centre for Management Development (CMD) and retired in 2011 as an acting director, Management Education and Training Department.
Mrs Ekpu obtained both a bachelor of arts degree in English and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. She also obtained a master’s degree in business administration from the Enugu State University of Technology, Enugu State. She also earned diplomas from Maastricht School of Management and the Ghana Institute of Management and Personnel Administration.
She will be buried this weekend in Ukanafun, Akwa Ibom State.
