Lawyer and author Uche Nwokedi has died in London, United Kingdom.
A senior advocate of Nigeria Olumide Sofowora announced this in a statement, saying Nwokedi died on June 28.
Nwokedi was also the editor-in-chief and publisher of Nigerian Oil and Gas Cases.
His expertise was in commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration.
An alumnus of St. Gregory’s College, Mayfield College, and the University of Lagos, Nwokedi began as a legal counsel at Ashland Oil (Nigeria) Company before joining Rotimi Williams’ Chambers. In 1991, he founded Uche Nwokedi & Co Legal Practitioners where he was principal counsel until his death.
Beyond his legal career, Nwokedi was passionate about entertainment. He produced Kakadu the Musical and mentored young talents through his youth development foundation, The Playhouse Initiative. He was also the creative force behind the M-Net Africa Magic legal TV drama series, E.V.E: Audi Alteram Partem.
Nwokedi held a third-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and was president of the Karate Federation of Nigeria from 2001 to 2005.
His memoir A Shred of Fear offers an account of his experiences during the Nigeria/Biafra War.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
