Former Big Brother Naija housemate Seyi Awolowo has revealed the challenges he faced growing up, including being disowned by his father multiple times.
He revealed this in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
Seyi, grandson of the late nationalist Obafemi Awolowo, opened up about his tumultuous upbringing in a polygamous home.
“My dad disowned me a couple of times. Not just me, a couple of us,” he said, highlighting the complex family dynamics he navigated.
Seyi claimed his father, who married three wives, kept detailed files on each child.
“My dad married more than one wife. He married three wives,” Seyi revealed, adding that his father wrote letters to cut off his children, reducing their identities to mere names on a list.
“We all have files. As of right now, your name is just Seyi, full stop,” he said.
Asked if he considered this treatment abusive, Seyi affirmed, “Yes.”
He also shared a more positive chapter of his life, detailing how he met his wife at a wedding through mutual friends and got married in 2020.
“I met her with a group of friends at a wedding. You know, normally that time I was in the world,” he reminisced.
Seyi, also an actor, addressed his time on the Big Brother Naija All Stars edition last year.
He spoke about his controversial comments and altercations with fellow Big Brother Naija stars Tacha and Ilebaye.
He expressed remorse and mentioned apologising to Ilebaye, demonstrating his growth and willingness to make amends.
Seyi’s acting career saw him play Kehinde in the 2022 movie Brotherhood.
