A Federal High Court in Abuja has given an order that the former minister of power Saleh Mamman should be remanded in Kuje correctional facility in Abuja pending the consideration of his bail application.
Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Thursday following Mamman’s arraignment.
Mamman is alleged to have laundered N33 billion.
He pleaded not guilty to the 12-count money laundering charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The former minister’s counsel Femi Ate told the court that he (Mamman) collapsed outside the courtroom. He was however able to take his plea.
Mamman was minister during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2021.
On September 1, 2021, Buhari sacked Mamman and the then minister of agriculture and rural development, Sabo Nanono, in what was called a cabinet restructuring.
Mamman was accused of conspiring with staff of the ministry in charge of the accounts of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects to divert billions of naira.
The judge adjourned till Friday, July 12 for the hearing of the bail application.
