Actress Mary Njoku has criticised fellow actress Merit Gold for her controversial opinion on what constitutes cheating in marriage.

This comes after Merit Gold posted on her Instagram page on Thursday, suggesting that a woman assisting her family without her husband’s consent is akin to cheating if her husband fully paid her bride price.

Merit Gold’s post read, “Assisting your family secretly without your husband’s consent is also cheating in marriage if he paid your bride price in full,” accompanied by the caption, “What do you think?”

The post sparked immediate backlash, especially from women who questioned the logic behind such a statement. Many wondered if Merit Gold was married.

Mary Njoku took to the comment section with a sarcastic retort.

In a now-deleted post, Mary suggested that by Merit Gold’s logic, even greeting one’s mother without a husband’s consent could be considered cheating.

“Greeting your mother without his consent is cheating too. He paid in full. As all of us don dey ment na,” Mary wrote, highlighting the absurdity she saw in Merit Gold’s statement.
