Chief executive officer of UBA Foundation Bola Atta on Tuesday paid tributes to her brother Dr. Obafemi Ayantuga on the ninth anniversary of his death.
Born on February 2, 1966 in Lagos, Ayantuga died on July 23, 2015 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. He was 49 years old.
Ayantuga was the medical director at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Minnesota, US at the time of his death.
He obtained his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and biochemistry from London University in 1986 and then proceeded to Oxford University to pursue his Ph.D in organic chemistry.
He went to medical school at Cambridge University. There, he received the John and Margaret Henderson memorial prize in medicine.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Atta wrote, “9 years… beloved Femi.”
On the website created in memory of her brother, she wrote, “9 years on Femi. Today we celebrate you. We thank God for your legacy. We thank God that he sent us your daughter, Ajoke to comfort us. I still miss you every day. A week ago I got a text that made me think for a second I had to share with Femi. Then I remembered I couldn’t. I pray for you every day my beloved brother. Continue to rest in peace. I love you.”
Last year, Atta recalled on LinkedIn how the deceased gave her all his savings for a month while they were students so she could buy a Chanel jacket she couldn’t afford.
She revealed Ayantuga’s daughter was born seven years and nine months after his death. The child was named after their mother Ajoke. Atta noted that this was made possible because her brother froze his sperm while he was alive.
The deceased belonged to several professional bodies such as the American College of Physicians, The Society of Hospital Medicine, The American College of Physician Executives and the American Public Health Association.
