Actress Empress Njamah has called on Nigerians to unite amidst the national protest to bring about positive change in the country.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, she admonished Nigerians, saying, “Make we try get sense… Until we start eating ourselves as food before we go get sense… It’s really not funny… We have to unite to make this work… People are stealing anything now to sell just to buy food.”
She said, “What is happening in our country is very crucial, but of course, some of us will take it as a joke. Everything is a joke to you, that’s why the government sees us as a joke.
“Is it not affecting you? Today of all days, is it the day you want to go to the internet and put on some dry joke? Is it funny, what is happening in the country? Is it funny? People are dying of starvation, nothing is cheap.”
The actress went on to narrate how three petty thieves were burnt alive because they stole food, yet many Nigerians remain insensitive.
“You will not place something out there that is positive that would calm the situation of all days,” she added.
Empress Njamah emphasised that “today” is an important day, not a day to post “over-edited filters” on social media to celebrate. She questioned what people are celebrating and called for sensitivity.
Reflecting on the Nigerian economy, she added that people are hungry and things are not cheap. She also advised individuals to toss their phones if they have nothing good to say.
Her post comes as Nigerians embark on the scheduled 10-day protest against bad governance.
