Yeni Kuti, the first daughter of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has commemorated the 27th anniversary of her father’s death.
The mother of one shared several pictures on Instagram on Friday, depicting the injuries her father sustained during his struggle for a better Nigeria.
The images highlight the numerous beatings Fela endured before his passing 27 years ago.
In her post, Yeni wrote, “It has been 27 years since Fela left us. Nothing much has changed. Today marks the 27th of his passing.
“I am hoping that his struggle for his people was not in vain. Listen to the cries of the people if you are in a position of power.”
Yeni emphasised the importance of government leaders listening to the populace, stating, “The people are the most important part of government. I posted a couple of pictures here showing the aftermath of his several beatings through the years.”
