Gbenga Makanjuola, former deputy chief of staff to the president of the eighth Senate Bukola Saraki, has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Makanjuola wrote to the ward chairman in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State Sola Alaja in a letter dated July 30 to inform him of his decision.
He thanked God for the “journey so far and the leadership of the party at the ward, council and state levels for the opportunity.”
The politician did not explain why he was leaving the party.
Alaja told Daily Trust that Makanjuola said he wanted to take a break for the time being.
“When I saw the letter, I asked why but he said he wants to take a break for now. He said he is not joining another party yet,” he said.
This comes days after Makanjuola was acquitted by a Federal High Court in Abuja of N3.5 billion money laundering and fraud case brought against him by the EFCC.
He was a two-time deputy governorship candidate of the PDP and two-time member of the House of Representatives.
