Juju music maestro King Sunny Ade and veteran reggae singer Orits Wiliki on Tuesday led the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) on a condolence visit to the family of the late Onyeka Onwenu.
The delegation visited the family at their residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Others in attendance included notable figures such as flautist Tee Mac, music executive Kenny Ogungbe and director general of MCSN Mayowa Ayilaran.
While addressing the family, Mr Ayilaran praised Onyeka, referring to her as a producer and performer, stating that “she was an epitome of creativity.”
He added, “That is why we are here this afternoon to commiserate with the family and to also show solidarity in this period of loss. We believe and pray that God will strengthen you to bear this great loss.”
King Sunny Ade, also known as KSA, prayed for Onyeka’s sons, asking for God’s blessings. “You know musicians who have done well like that don’t die because their names will still be ringing in the whole world,” he said.
Tee Mac promised to perform at the deceased’s service of songs and offered assistance to the family in any way.
Kenny highlighted the similarities between him and the deceased, noting that they were both broadcasters before venturing into music.
He praised Onyeka as an elegant woman and prayed that she rests peacefully in paradise.
Onyeka’s sons Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, who received the delegation, revealed their intention to respect their late mother’s wish by burying her as soon as possible.
Abraham thanked the group for their support and mentioned that she would be buried within a month.
Tijani also thanked those present and stressed the impact the late singer had.
Onyeka, a member of MCSN, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 30 after her performance at the 80th birthday party of Stella Okoli, founder and chief executive officer of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
