Former Miss South Africa 2024 contestant Chidimma Adetshina has accepted the invitation to be part of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.

Representing Taraba State, Ms Adetshina expressed excitement in an acceptance video shared on Instagram on Wednesday.

The model thanked Silverbird Group, the event’s organisers, and shared her anticipation for the journey ahead.

“I have decided to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant,” Adetshina said.

She described it as Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant.

This comes after Adetshina withdrew from the pageant due to controversy surrounding her Nigerian heritage.

The 23-year-old model, born in Soweto to Nigerian and Mozambican parents, was the target of xenophobic attacks on social media.

On August 10, Mia Le Roux emerged winner of the pageant.

Le Roux defeated nine predominantly black models to be crowned winner at Sun Bet Arena, Time Square, Menlyn, Pretoria.

The 28-year-old is the first deaf person to be crowned Miss South Africa. She is a descendant of Dutch settlers in South Africa.

Le Roux received a cash prize of $53,371 (R1 million), a Mercedes Benz car and a luxury fully furnished apartment.
