An FCT High Court has adjourned hearing in the FCT minister Nyesom Wike’s motion on the restriction order on participants of the hunger protest until September 4.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji’s adjournment came after Wike’s counsel, Moses Ebute, told the court that he served the motion on notice on the respondents.
Counsel to the first to fourth respondents S.M Oyeghe did not oppose the motion but asked that it should be served on them in court.
The other respondents were not present in court nor legally represented.
Justice Oriji directed the claimant’s counsel to serve all the respondents, then adjourned until September 4 for the motion.
The respondents in the suit are Omoyele Sowore, Damilare Adenola, Adama Ukpabi, Tosin Harsogba, persons unknown, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police.
Others are the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Defencee Corps, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air staff, Chief of Naval Staff as 1st to 12th respondents.
In his ruling on July 31, Justice Oriji recognised the rights of the protesters to embark on the protest but restricted them to the stadium in view of fears expressed by the minister.
