The reality TV show Big Brother Naija, has introduced the world to many memorable personalities.
Sadly, three of these stars have passed away over the years, leaving behind legacies that continue to resonate with fans.
1. Patrick Fakoya, popularly known as Rico Swavey
Rico Swavey tragically passed away on October 13, 2022, following a severe car accident that left him in a coma before his untimely death. His passing was first announced by his fellow Big Brother Naija contestant, Alex Asogwa.
Rico was a housemate in the third season of Big Brother Naija, titled Double Wahala, which aired in 2018.
He competed alongside other notable housemates like Tobi Bakare, Cynthia Nwadiora (Cee C), Ifu Ennada, Nina Chinonso Onyenobi (Nina Ivy), and Miracle Igbokwe.
2. Joseph Ada
Joseph Ada, a participant in the inaugural season of Big Brother Naija in 2006, passed away in 2023 in the United States after being diagnosed with pancreatitis.
After the show, Joseph relocated to the U.S., where he pursued a career as a flight attendant.
During the first season, Joseph shared the Big Brother house with other contestants, including Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Gideon Okeke, Maureen Osuji, Katung Aduwak, Francisca Owumi, Ify Ejikeme, and Helen.
3. Francisca Owumi
Francisca Owumi, who was the first runner-up of Big Brother Naija’s inaugural season in 2006, sadly passed away in August 2024 after a brief illness.
Her family announced the news on Instagram, sharing a touching tribute with a photo of her and the caption, “A daughter and sister. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.”
After her time on reality TV, Francisca pursued her passion for music, releasing two singles, ‘Gbadun You’ and ‘Diva,’ under her record label, Cisca Entertainment, in 2012.
She also contributed as a writer for Revista, an international magazine based in Ghana
