Nigerians have honoured the memory of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, on the first anniversary of his untimely death.
The singer passed away on September 12, 2023, under still-mysterious circumstances. He was laid to rest the following day in Ikorodu.
However, as questions about his death persisted, his body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy conducted by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
The autopsy revealed “no significant gross finding,” leaving the cause of his death unresolved.
Unsatisfied with the findings, Mohbad’s family called for further investigations, leading to a coroner’s inquest, which began on September 29, 2023, at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court.
The inquest seeks to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s death, with proceedings still ongoing.
As fans and celebrities reflect on his legacy, many have taken to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the late artiste.
His wife, Omowunmi, shared an emotional video on Instagram, writing:
“Ilerioluwa mi, Husband of my youth, my best friend!
It’s been a year today—a year since you left me and our Liam in this cold world. It’s been so hard. I miss you so much. Liam misses you too.
“I wish you were here to see him; you would have been an incredible father.
I still don’t know how I’ve survived without you. God, I wish you were here every single day—every millisecond of the day.
“Your passing brought me unbearable pain, but it has also shaped me. I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning.”
Actor Yomi Fabiyi also honoured Mohbad’s memory, posting a picture of the late musician with the message:
“Truly, life is a game of chess. Continue to REST IN POWER, Gen. Mohbad. ONE YEAR GONE already. Renewing the call for justice #justiceformohbad.”
Skit maker Cute Abiola shared a tribute as well, posting a video with the simple caption, “A year ago, rest on legend.”
