Why fans are surprised at Lagbaja’s appearance on Fireboy’s song

Lagbaja

Are you among the many surprised to see Lagbaja in Fireboy’s song ‘Back n Forth’?

Before we explain why your surprise is justified, let us tell you a bit about the song.

‘Back n Forth’ is the sixth track in Fireboy’s album Adedamola released on August 29, 2024.

Other artistes featured in the album are Seun Kuti, Spinall and Jon Batiste.

Now back to Lagbaja.

The masked musician released his first album in 1993, three years before Fireboy was born.

Despite the wide age and stylistic difference with Fireboy, the big masquerade jumped on the song and is in the official video which generated over 1.3 million views on YouTube in one week.

Lagbaja, who has been rather quiet since he released the album 200 Million Mumu in 2012, hardly appears on other musicians’ songs.

He featured in an album titled So Why alongside Youssou N’Dour, Papa Wemba, Lucky Dube and others in 1997 and contributed a song titled ‘Africa, Wake Up’ but the project belongs to the Red Cross.

Lagbaja also collaborated with P-Square to release ‘Unlimited’ a theme song for a telecoms company in 2012.

Fireboy’s Back n Forth not only introduced him to a new generation of music fans, it also marked his first collaboration with another musician on a non-commissioned project.
