An Ogun State High Court has issued an interim injunction to stop a scheduled event honouring the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
This development was revealed in a statement from the legal team representing Mohbad’s family, signed by Monisola Odumosu.
The court’s decision, delivered by Justice O. Osunfisan, followed a motion filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, represented by Emmanuel Oroko.
The injunction specifically targets the “Sing for Mohbad and Win” event, which was slated to take place from September 12 to 14, 2024, in Ogun State or elsewhere.
Mohbad’s family initiated legal action, urging the public to respect their period of mourning and avoid commercialising Mohbad’s memory.
They expressed concerns that some parties were attempting to exploit the goodwill surrounding their late son for financial gain.
Odumosu confirmed that the case would return to court on October 7, 2024, for a hearing on the motion for an interlocutory injunction.
This move follows the family’s previous appeals for individuals and organisations to seek their approval before planning any events in Mohbad’s name, stressing the importance of honouring his legacy respectfully.
