President Bola Tinubu on Monday visited Maiduguri, Borno State capital to condole with the government and people of the state over the Alau Dam flood disaster.
The president, who returned to Nigeria on Sunday following a trip to China and stopover in London, arrived Maiduguri around 3.15 pm.
He was received on arrival by Governor Babagana Zulum. Tinubu paid a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar-Garbai El-Kaneni, before visiting camps where he addressed displaced persons.
The Shehu’s palace and University of Maiduguri suffered some damages over the flooding.
The flood, which submerged almost half of Maiduguri city, caused the loss of lives and property.
Borno State Government has so far opened 36 camps to cater for thousands of displaced persons.
Tinubu’s visit comes days after his deputy Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri over the incident. During this visit, Shettima told the displaced people that the government would provide tens of trucks of rice to ease their burden.
