Lady Doja Otedola, mother of businessman Femi Otedola, has been presented with the papal honour of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Pope Francis.
The medal was established in 1888 and is awarded by the pope to members of the clergy and laity for service to the church. Until 1993, it was the highest Papal decoration that could be awarded to women.
Mr Otedola, on Tuesday, shared photos on social media of his mum being conferred the honour by the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos Alfred Martins on the pope’s behalf.
He described it as “well deserved”.
“Congratulations Mummy – Dame Christine Doja on your award of the Papal honour of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by His Holiness Pope Francis. This is a honour well deserved,” the boardroom guru wrote.
Lady Doja, 92, built St Peter’s Catholic Church in Epe, Lagos. The church was dedicated on December 25, 2021.
According to her son, she vowed to build a church before turning 90. She was married to the late Sir Michael Otedola who was governor of Lagos from 1992 to 1993.
