The corpse of the late Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director and former Super Eagles Coach, Amodu Shuaibu, has left the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin in a convoy for his hometown, Okpella, both in Edo State.
Shuaibu, 58, died in the early hours of Saturday in his sleep at his residence in Benin City and would be buried same day according to Islamic rites.
His demise comes less than 72 hours after the death of another ex-Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.
The pair worked together as head and assistant coach back in 2001 – qualifying Nigeria for the 2002 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
Shuaibu, who hails from Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, also qualified the Super Eagles for the 2010 World Cup.
News of his death threw the entire football community into another round of, especially as he had paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Keshi and also signed the condolence register.
“The ‘Big Boss,’ you live good life and ran a good race. Adieu, my brother,” he had written in Keshi’s condolence register.
Shuaibu was a striker during his playing days who kitted for Dumez and Niger Tornadoes. His playing career ended after he broke his leg.
