First lady Remi Tinubu has donated N500 million to victims of flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

About half of the city has been submerged, with thousands of people displaced and lives and property lost.

Mrs Tinubu, represented by Nana Kashim Shettima, announced the donation during a visit on Wednesday to Governor Babagana Zulum.

She lauded the state government over its commitment to protecting the people and pledged continued support of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to youth and women in the state.

The first lady, who is also the chairman of RHI, was accompanied on the visit by the wives of some state governors, ministers and female members of the National Assembly.

Responding, Zulum lauded the first lady, adding that RHI programme empowered many women and the vulnerable in the state.

President Bola Tinubu visited Maiduguri on Monday to show solidarity with the people of the state over the incident.
