Army chief Taoreed Lagbaja hasn’t resigned – Spokesman

Taoreed Lagbaja

The Nigerian Army has debunked reports that its chief Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has resigned.

Lagbaja was appointed as the 23rd chief of army staff on June 19, 2023, by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.

A report by an online news platform claimed Lagbaja submitted his resignation letter to Tinubu after an alleged assassination attempt on his (Lagbaja) life.

The report further claimed his resignation had created confusion within the military.

However, army spokesman Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu told PUNCH on Monday that it was “fake news”.
