Davido performs at UN General Assembly in New York

Afrobeats star Davido has thrilled audience at the United Bank for Africa’s 75th anniversary celebration which coincided with the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Davido delivered a performance, captivating attendees with some of his biggest hits like ‘Risky,’ ‘Skelewu,’ and ‘Aye.’

Earlier on Tuesday, he announced his performance on X (formerly Twitter), building anticipation for his appearance at the UNGA event.

The celebration was graced by prominent figures, including Tony Elumelu, Chairman of UBA and Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu at the UN assembly, where he echoed Tinubu’s call for a restructuring of the UN Security Council.

In his speech, he emphasised the need for Africa, particularly Nigeria, to have a permanent seat on the Security Council.

“The Security Council should be expanded, both in the permanent and non-permanent member categories, to better reflect the world’s diversity. We fully support the efforts of Secretary-General Guterres in this regard,” said Tinubu.

He further added, “Africa deserves the respect it has earned and a rightful place among the permanent members of the Council, with equal rights and responsibilities as other members.”

The UNGA, headquartered in New York, is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, serving as its primary deliberative and policymaking body.
