The House of Representatives has mandated its committees on anti-corruption and correctional service to investigate the allegations of bribery made against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
The house’s resolution on Thursday followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Rep. Patrick Umoh on the need to probe the allegations.
Social media influencer Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan recently released a leaked audio in which crossdresser Bobrisky claimed he bribed NCS officers so he could serve a six-month sentence for abuse of the naira in a private apartment instead of the correctional facility.
Bobrisky also said in the audio conversation with an unknown person that he bribed the EFCC with N15 million so the money laundering charges against him could be dropped.
In his motion, Umoh said these allegations raised concerns about the integrity of Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies and the country’s reputation as a corrupt nation.
The house unanimously adopted the motion and referred it to the committees for further legislative action.
The committees are to report back within three weeks.
