How I handled the loss of my mother – Davido

Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about his personal experiences with loss, particularly the devastating impact of losing his mother and how his faith has helped him endure these hardships.

In a recent interview with Mystery Fashionist in New York, the singer shared his reflections on the passing of his mother, Mrs. Victoria Adeleke when he was just 11 years old, as well as the tragic death of his three-year-old son Ifeanyi.

He also paid tribute to close friends he has lost along the way, including Tagbo, DJ Olu, Obama DMW and his personal photographer Fortune.

“I have lost a lot of people. I lost my mum at the age of eleven. I’m just being strong. I did a song called ‘Stand Strong.’ I feel like strength and obviously, my faith has kept me going,” Davido expressed.

Addressing some common misconceptions about himself, Davido emphasised the significance of family and the divine nature of his musical talent.

“I think sometimes people assume I’m not approachable or they believe I’m too accessible.

“But I grew up in a big family and I’m used to having people around me. My talent and success are God-given,” he said.

The loss of his mother at such a young age and the death of his son Ifeanyi in a tragic poolside accident have profoundly shaped Davido’s outlook on life and his music career.
