Actors Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Lateef Adedimeji and Mr Macaroni are set to return for Anikulapo Season 2 as Kunle Afolayan unveils the cast.
Kunle officially announced the returning and new cast members for the highly anticipated second season of Anikulapo.
In a series of Instagram posts on Monday, he confirmed that Netflix has renewed the show for another season, building on the success of its debut.
Kunle also shared insights into the upcoming season’s plot which will explore aspects of Nigerian history and culture, including the transatlantic slave trade.
Filming for the season took place in various locations including Oyo State, Nigeria and Cape Coast, Ghana.
In his post the filmmaker wrote, “Unveiling the new stars and talents of the Anikulapo series… Back, and bigger than ever! Netflix has officially confirmed a new season of Anikulapo, and we are thrilled to share this exciting news!”
The returning cast includes stars like Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Gabriel Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Owo Ogunde, Aisha Lawal, Adebowale Adedayo (popularly known as Mr Macaroni) and Eyiyemi Afolayan.
It’s worth noting that while Lateef Adedimeji did not appear in the original film, he joined the cast in the first season of the series.
Meanwhile, Mr Macaroni who was in the debut movie was absent from the first season but is returning for Season 2.
Sola Sobowale and Bimbo Ademoye played major roles in the debut film and first season.
The upcoming season will also introduce new faces including Jide Awobona, Saga Deolu, Tayo Faniran and Antar Laniyan.
The first installment of Anikulapo, a Netflix original premiered on September 30, 2022, and was widely praised for its rich portrayal of Nigerian culture and history.
