Award-winning filmmaker and producer Bolanle Austen-Peters and other African filmmakers will be attending the prestigious American Film Showcase (AFS).

Bolanle shared the news on her Instagram page on Friday, posting several pictures.

She wrote, “American Film Showcase… Proud to be a leading African filmmaker sharing incredible moments with fellow filmmakers.

“Meeting with great American filmmakers, studios, producers, and sharing experiences with @kunleafolayan, @kenambani, @phil_director, @usinnigeria, @usccinema, @americanfilmshowcase, @inventionstudios, @macroproductionstudios.”

She will be attending the event alongside renowned film director Kunle Afolayan.

The AFS initiative will take participants to Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Virginia, and Atlanta, where they will engage in a series of workshops and networking events. The program emphasizes the power of film to foster understanding, cooperation, and constructive dialogue across cultures.

It also offers participants a platform to connect with global networks, explore potential collaborations and reshape the African television landscape.

More than just personal development, this effort marks a pivotal moment for African television, drawing international attention to the continent’s rich and diverse storytelling and creative talent.

In a related effort, the Middleburg Film Festival, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the AFS, will host a delegation of prominent Kenyan and Nigerian filmmakers.

This initiative is part of a broader U.S. Department of State endeavor to support Africa’s creative economy and foster collaboration between the American and African film industries.

The American Film Showcase brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries, feature films, and animated shorts to audiences worldwide, offering a unique view of American society and culture through the eyes of independent filmmakers.

Through the AFS, US embassies in 40 countries organise film screenings, discussions and workshops covering various aspects of filmmaking, including production, writing, animation, distribution and independent financing, further enriching global creative exchanges.
