Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) has debunked claims that money was sprayed at the wedding of his daughter Fauziyya Goje.
The former governor of Gombe State gave his daughter’s hand in marriage to Aliyu Abubakar at a well-attended event last Friday in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide Muhammad Yayari, the lawmaker said the viral video circulating on social media is an attempt to tarnish his family’s image.
“The attention of the family of Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje has been drawn to a misleading viral video circulating on social media, insinuating that money was sprayed at the wedding ceremony of his daughter, Fauziyya Danjuma Goje.
“On behalf of the respected Goje’s family, we categorically deny this mischievous allegation and consider it a blatant and calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the revered family and the esteemed guests who attended the ceremony,” the statement said.
According to him, the family would never act contrary to the laws of Nigeria.
He added that, “It is, therefore, unthinkable and mischievous for disgruntled elements to share the viral dollar-spraying video depicting or insinuating the same to be part of the celebration of Fauziyya’s wedding.
“We urge the public to disregard this baseless claim and appreciate the values of decency and respect that define Senator Goje’s family. In fact, throughout the line of events to celebrate the wedding, there was no place where men and women were mixed.”
At the wedding, President Bola Tinubu served as the guardian of the bride while the immediate past governor of Gombe, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, served as the representative of the groom.
Prominent dignitaries that attended the event were Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, chief of staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila; national security adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; governors and ex-governors, lawmakers and ex-lawmakers.
