Flavour, Kcee clash over alleged music plagiarism

Music stars Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour and Kingsley Okonkwo widely recognised as Kcee have engaged in a public feud over alleged plagiarism.

The dispute began when fans noticed similarities between Kcee’s new track and Flavour’s signature style, prompting Flavour to post a cryptic message on his X account (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

He wrote, “Copy copy akaria” meaning “too much copying”, without naming names.

Kcee was quick to respond, seemingly catching the hint.

He took to his X handle to defend himself, asserting, “BRO!!!!!! We are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully.”

In a series of posts, Kcee continued to counter Flavour’s implied accusations.

He accused Flavour of attempting to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, emphasising that no single artiste owns the genre.

“Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a custodian. I’ve been in this game before you. This genre belongs to all of us. My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologise,” he asserted.

Kcee didn’t hold back in his criticism adding, “In an ocean of things that matter, you’re like a needle. Get that right. People recognize authenticity. I’ll continue celebrating our culture unapologetically. Spend your energy on success, not diminishing mine.”

As tensions escalated, Kcee declared, “I’ve never been the type to go head-to-head, but I’m calling out this disrespect. I’ve come too far for anyone to downplay my sweat and hard work. HELL NO!”

Fans quickly weighed in on the feud, with many expressing support for Flavour.

One X user named Eze Val commented, “You stole Ojapiano from Kolaboy. The young dude respected you even when you acted like you started everything about Ojapiano. Why do you have to wait for others to create before jumping on it? Kcee, you can do better.”
