Governor Alex Otti has approved the removal of Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu as vice-chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu.
The announcement was made by commissioner for information and culture Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia on Tuesday, following the State Executive Council meeting on Monday.
Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor.
Additional appointments include Dr. Agwu Agwu, a former speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly as pro-chancellor, and Catherine Ifejika as chancellor. Dr. Onwubiko Dike joins the university’s governing council, along with two new deputy vice-chancellors.
Other appointments cover key roles such as members of the Senate, representatives from the congregation, convocation, and the state ministry of education, as well as a new bursar for the institution.
Mr Kanu stated that the changes were based on recommendations from a visitation panel established to address the university’s challenges. He noted that the appointments mark the beginning of a series of reforms aimed at revitalising the institution.
The new appointments take effect from November 1.
