Ibori mourns as ex-Delta deputy governor Amos Utuama dies

Former governor of Delta State James Ibori is grieving over the death of an ex-deputy governor of the state Amos Utuama (SAN).

Born on June 5, 1947, Prof Utuama died early Saturday in Lagos.

He was deputy to former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Before that, he was the commissioner for justice and attorney-general of Delta State during Ibori’s administration.

Before his foray into politics, Utuama was a well-respected lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.

He was a native of Otughievwen (Otu-Jeremi) town in Ughievwen Kingdom of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The former deputy governor has been in and out of hospital after the death of his wife, Dr Nelly Utuama.

In his tribute on social media, Ibori described the deceased as a humble, loyal aide who executed his duties with utmost professionalism during his lifetime.

He wrote: “Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, my humble, loyal, and esteemed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. You were my steadfast legal foundation, executing your duties with unwavering commitment. If it were within my power to halt death, I would have done so for you. Farewell, dear Professor. May your pure soul rest in eternal peace.”
