Ondo State Police Command has arrested a prophetess Folashade Adekola in connection with the deaths of a woman Jumoke Adesuwa and her newborn baby inside her church in Akure.
Reports indicate that Adesuwa bled to death from complications following childbirth at the church, located in the Oke-Aro area of Akure. The baby reportedly died shortly after birth.
According to the police, the prophetess was detained following a report by the deceased’s brother.
The state police public relations officer Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the arrest, stating that Adekola had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, that the sister died after childbirth in the church and the prophetess is already in custody. Investigations are still ongoing,” Odunlami said.
A family source, speaking anonymously to PUNCH, said that a call from the church initially informed the deceased’s husband about the birth. Upon arrival at the church, the family found Adesuwa bleeding heavily and rushed her to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, after being rejected by three hospitals, she passed away during treatment at a fourth.
The family later returned to the church to retrieve the baby’s body, finding it in a room that did not resemble a delivery space. This prompted them to report the incident to the police, resulting in the prophetess’ arrest.
Adesuwa’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary.
