Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will miss Monday’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Rwanda due to the recent death of his father.
Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen granted Nwabali leave to mourn his father.
Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor confirmed the development, stating, “He has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his teammates on.”
The 27-year-old goalkeeper shared the news of his father’s death on Friday via social media. His father Godspower Abali also known as Chief Onyeogazrim I of Okwuzi was a chief surveyor. He died at the age of 67.
With Nwabali unavailable, the starting goalkeeper position for the match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will be contested between Italy-based Maduka Okoye and Ethiopia-based Amas Obasogie.
