Actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to claims suggesting her involvement in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad.
In a recent interview on Glass House with AY Makun shared on social media on Saturday, Iyabo explained that her efforts to seek justice for Mohbad were wrongly perceived as a publicity stunt.
The actress dismissed the accusations, stressing that her motives were purely genuine.
“I am genuinely interested in getting justice for Mohbad,” she stated.
“They even suggested that maybe I killed Mohbad. I wasn’t around when he died. I wasn’t close to him. I didn’t really know him that well.”
Iyabo recounted her brief encounter with the late singer noting that they had only interacted during the One Africa Music Fest.
“For the few days that we were together, I just knew that he was a cool boy, had his own thing he was going through and doing his music.
“If I killed him, then why was I fighting for his body to be exhumed for autopsy? At one point, they claimed I was paid [to advocate for justice]. They also alleged I was eyeing a political position.”
The actress went on to clarify that despite the various rumours, her only intention was to support the quest for justice.
“They said I was doing it for clout. So many things have been said about me, but I am not bothered because that isn’t the case. All I did was just to help seek justice for the late singer.”
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under still-unclear circumstances.
He was buried the next day in Ikorodu.
However as doubts surrounding his death grew, his body was exhumed on September 21 and an autopsy was conducted by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
