Veteran actress Lizzy Evoeme popularly known as Ovularia from the classic 1980s NTA comedy series New Masquerade, is set to be buried in Abia State, seven months after her death.
According to a burial flyer signed by “Chief Emeka Evoeme,” the beloved actress will be laid to rest on December 6 at her family residence in Umuaba Okpu-Umuobo, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, Abia State.
Evoeme died on May 5 at the age of 81 in Port Harcourt.
The actress’s family after her death issued a statement expressing their sorrow and gratitude for the support they had received since her passing.
“Friends, fans, colleagues, the family of the legendary actress, Elizabeth Lizzy ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme, would like to notify the public, all those who loved her and her work in The New Masquerade, of her passing.
“Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme will be dearly missed and was extremely loved by her family and also by you, her fans. We thank you all for your support and for respecting our privacy at this time. God bless you all and may our dear Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme rest in perfect peace, now and always,” the statement read.
Born on December 1, 1942, Lizzy Evoeme was a prominent figure in Nigerian television from the early 1980s until 1993, long before the rise of Nollywood.
Her role as Ovularia in New Masquerade made her a household name, endearing her to audiences across the country. New Masquerade was one of Nigeria’s most beloved soap operas in the 1980s, featuring an ensemble cast that included Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya), Claude Eke (Jegede Sokoya), James Iroha (Giringori), Christy Essien-Igbokwe (Apena), and David Ofor (Clarus).
Beyond her famous role in New Masquerade, Evoeme also starred in Sins of the Fathers, a film that showcased her acting prowess alongside notable figures such as Pete Edochie, Liz Benson, Kenneth Okonkwo, Patrick Doyle, Patience Ozokwo and the late Prince James Uche.
