Ifeanyi Ubah

The Senate dedicated its plenary session on Tuesday to honour the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly.

A casket bearing Ubah’s remains was placed in state at the foyer of the White House wing, directly in front of the Senate Chamber. The day’s agenda focused solely on one item: a “valedictory session” in remembrance of the senator.

In a show of respect, Senate President Godswill Akpabio wore traditional Isi-Enyi attire, complemented by a matching red cap and dark sunglasses. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also dressed in Isi-Agwu attire.

Ubah’s vacant seat in the chamber was decorated with flowers and draped in cloth bearing the colours of the Nigerian flag.

The session was opened to non-senators, with dignitaries and invited guests allowed to pay their respects. Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State governor Chris Ngige and former Anambra Central Senator Uche Ekwunife were among the notable attendees.

Also present were the wives of key Senate officers, including wife of the Senate President, Ekaette Akpabio; wife of the Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and wife of the Senate Majority Leader Oluyemisi Bamidele who joined in honouring the late senator’s legacy.

Earlier, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas led a delegation of House leaders in a solemn procession around Ubah’s casket.

Ubah died in London on July 26 aged 52.

A night of tributes was held on Monday in Abuja in his honour.

He will be buried on November 22.
