Bread seller turned model Olajumoke Orisaguna widely known as Olajumoke Onibread has narrated how she earned just N50,000 after a fashion show in South Africa during the peak of her fame.
Olajumoke made this revelation during a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, organised by the Cardinal Foundation and led by Doja Allen, CEO of City 105.1 FM.
Reflecting on her journey, Olajumoke recounted how switching from Azuka Ogujiuba of Mediaroomhub’s mentorship to a new handler led to poor financial management and exploitation.
According to Olajumoke, her former handler managed all her finances, often underpaying her despite significant modeling opportunities.
“I want to be educated. If I was educated my former handler Victoria wouldn’t have taken advantage of me the way she did.
“If we got a job, she was the one that would tell me how much was to be paid. I didn’t know anything. I had a lawyer who was supposed to help me but things just didn’t go well.
“I travelled to South Africa for Soweto Fashion Week and was paid a lot of money. I didn’t know exactly how much but Victoria just told me we were travelling.
“I was happy but when we came back from the trip, Victoria said I would pay for my accommodation, return ticket and feeding in South Africa.
“She gave me just 200,000 naira at the end of the trip.
“We travelled to South Africa for another trip and Victoria only gave me 50,000 naira. I accepted it because I didn’t know how much I was actually paid by the organisers of the event we went for.
“I finally realised that she was not helping me, but setting me back. I had two children to cater for.”
When her two-year contract with her handler ended, Olajumoke requested her Instagram account’s password but the handler refused to hand it over.
At the press conference Olajumoke also expressed appreciation for her supporters, including TY Bello whose photograph of Olajumoke kick-started her modeling career after she appeared by chance in the background of a shoot featuring British rapper Tinie Tempah.
Currently, through Azuka’s support, the model is interning at City 105.1 FM, gearing up to host her own show Kílón Shéle.
The event which was attended by media figures like Azuka, OAP Ibukun Adeoye, and TVC MD Morayo Afolabi-Brown, marked Olajumoke’s formal return to the public eye.
Born in 1989 in Osun State, Olajumoke originally worked as a hairstylist before moving to Lagos to sell bread, seeking better opportunities for her family.
It was during this period that her unexpected rise to fame began.
