I’m dropping my family name – Phyna

Big Brother Naija ‘Level Up’ winner Phyna has announced she is dropping her family surname Otabor, after learning she has no known family ties.

In a post made on Thursday night on her official X and Instagram accounts, Phyna revealed that it has been confirmed she has no family and her origins remain a mystery.

“I am publicly dropping my family surname OTABOR,” she wrote on X.

“It has been proven that I actually have no family and nobody knows how I came about… I’m still searching for answers though… it’s been rough with me lately.

“I’m in a place where I can’t even describe how I feel or what to call what I’m going through right now. Growing up and the way I was tossed around by relatives, I should have suspected, but I guess I was too young… omo my head wan tear!!!!!!”

Phyna’s revelation has drawn a flood of support from fans and followers, many of whom have offered words of encouragement and solidarity during this challenging time.

This isn’t the first time the reality star’s relationship with her family has made headlines.

Last year, Felix Otabor who claimed to be her father accused her of neglecting the family after her big win on the reality show.

In an interview with Vanguard, he claimed that Phyna had stopped taking their calls and that they hadn’t seen her since she clinched the BBNaija Season 7 title in 2022.

Mr Otabor said the family believed their hardships would end when Phyna won the N100 million prize, but she allegedly disappeared soon after her victory.

In response to his accusations, Phyna had posted on Twitter, “In the history of dragging… this is the first time I cried and it touched me. Let’s meet later on Instagram live.”
