House of Representatives’ member for Aba North/South Federal Constituency Alex Ikwechegh has marked his first year in office.

In a message commemorating the anniversary on November 17, Ikwechegh expressed gratitude to his constituents for their trust and collaboration, describing the journey as extraordinary.

He emphasised progress made in addressing challenges and implementing initiatives designed to spur sustainable growth and development.

“This journey of leadership has been nothing short of extraordinary. I am deeply gratified by the strides we have made together, addressing critical challenges, advocating for our collective interests and championing initiatives for sustainable growth and development,” he stated.

Ikwechegh noted some of his achievements to include the rehabilitation and expansion of roads, distribution of over 15 electricity transformers to improve power supply and the installation of more than 1,500 solar-powered streetlights to enhance security and economic activities.

He said over 200 students have benefitted from university scholarships, while schools like Eziama Central, Riverside Primary and Constitution Crescent have received learning materials, furniture and other resources.

Also, he said Abia Polytechnic library was equipped with solar energy and that two coaster buses were donated to facilitate student transportation.

His empowerment programmes, according to him, have trained over 5,000 individuals in various trades, including tailoring, solar installation, plumbing, and shoe making. Hundreds of women and youth have received starter packs, financial aid and equipment to kick-start their businesses.

Last month, Ikwechegh made headlines for assaulting and threatening a Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya following disagreement on mode of delivery of a package.

On October 30, the lawmaker was arraigned before a Kuje Magistrate Court on three counts of abuse of office, assault and threat to life. He was granted bail of N500,000.

Later, Mr Abuwatseya released a video where he expressed regret for provoking Ikwechegh and asked Nigerians for forgiveness.

Consequently, Abuwatseya’s lawyers withdrew their services. Nothing has been heard of the case since then.
