Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has publicly expressed regret over the fallout with his estranged wife Temitope Obasanjo nee Adebutu.
Olujonwo and Temitope got married in May 2017. In less than a year, the marriage suffered cracks on allegations of physical assaults and infidelity.
In a statement shared with Leadership on Monday, Olujonwo pleaded for her forgiveness and sought reconciliation despite ongoing legal proceedings to end their marriage.
Reflecting on their union, he shared his renewed perspective and desire to mend their relationship: “It is with a heart full of reflection and hope that I, Mr. Olujonwo Obasanjo, share the latest development in the journey between my estranged wife, Mrs. Temitope Adebutu Obasanjo, and I.
“For some time now, our relationship has been marred by seemingly irreconcilable differences, painful moments that led us down the path of separation, and even divorce proceedings. Yet, despite the hurt and the distance that has grown between us, recent events have led me to reassess the foundation of our marriage with a fresh perspective.”
Olujonwo expressed deep remorse for the pain caused by his actions, including the role played by his mother in the conflict. He apologised to Temitope and her family, acknowledging the impact of their struggles on her and her late mother.
“My deepest desire is for reconciliation, for healing and for the restoration of what was lost. “I recognise the role I played in the challenges we faced and fully accept my responsibility to rebuild the trust and love that we once had,” he stated.
Olujonwo further committed to pursuing reconciliation free from anger or blame, emphasising the cherished memories and dreams they once shared.
“When I reflect on the beautiful moments we have shared, the joy, the laughter, the dreams of the future, I am reminded of why I chose Temitope as my partner,” he said.
In his plea, he called on Temitope to forgive him, release past hurts and consider a renewed commitment to their union. He vowed to approach the process with sincerity, humility and unwavering effort.
“To Temitope, I offer my most sincere apologies. I ask for your forgiveness, and I plead for your hand in this renewed commitment to our union. Together, let us move forward with love, understanding, and a renewed sense of purpose and belief in God to continue to guide and lead us through as we move forward in our renewed relationship,” he said.
Ending his statement, Olujonwo reiterated his hope for healing and reconciliation, declaring his dedication to restoring their bond.
