Singer and rapper Folarin Falana well known as Falz has shared his experience of juggling two contrasting careers—practising law and pursuing music.
Speaking on the Madame Joyce podcast, Falz described the challenges of living a “double life” as a lawyer during the day and a rapper by night.
He highlighted how the legal profession discourages practitioners from engaging in other ventures.
Recounting a memorable moment in court, Falz revealed an encounter with a judge who recognised him as a musician.
“There was a time I was in court, and living a double life at the time as well. Lawyer by day, rapper by night,” he said.
Falz recalled introducing himself formally during a proceeding.
“With profound respect my lord, the name is Folarin Falana, appearing for the plaintiff.”
The judge he said, adjusted his glasses and asked, “Counsel, are you not the one doing something else on the side?”
Falz admitted that such moments underscore the tension between professional expectations in law and his passion for music, noting the “unspoken rule” in the legal field that discourages involvement in other pursuits.
