Islamic scholar Sheikh Muyideen Bello, renowned for his sermons and global outreach, has died.
News of his death was announced on Friday by fellow preacher Sheikh Taofeeq Akewugbagold, who shared his grief in a Facebook post.
“Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his Creator. Sultanul Wahizeen of Yorubaland Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Firdaus for you,” Akewugbagold wrote.
Sheikh Muyideen, born in 1940 into the Bello Ajani family of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan, was known for his devotion to Islamic propagation from a young age.
He began preaching at age 10 and continued to inspire many with his teachings throughout his lifetime.
His early education included I.D.C. Primary School and Mahdul Arabiy, Elekuro, where he gained expertise in Arabic and Islamic studies.
Sheikh Muyideen later became a teacher in secondary schools across Oyo, Ogun, and Kano states and served as Missioner for the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.
A sought-after preacher, he delivered sermons internationally, including in the UK, US, and neighboring African countries.
Speaking to BBC Yoruba, Sheikh Taofeeq confirmed that Sheikh Muyideen passed away on Friday morning at his Ibadan residence. He was 83 years old.
The revered scholar will be laid to rest this evening following Islamic funeral rites.
