Show us your mother, Tonto Dikeh berates trolls who body-shame women

Actress-turned-politician Tonto Dikeh has taken a strong stand against body shaming, urging individuals to think before criticising women for their appearance, especially in 2024.

In a post shared on her Instagram on Tuesday, Tonto condemned the hypocrisy of those who body-shame women, particularly those whose physical changes are due to natural life events like childbirth.

The actress emphasised that before anyone judges a woman’s body, they should consider how their own mother looks.

She captioned the post, “This statement highlights the hypocrisy of men/women who body-shame women, especially those whose physical changes result from natural processes like childbirth.

“It calls for self-reflection and empathy, reminding them to consider the sacrifices and transformations women, including their own mothers, often go through in life,” she wrote.

In her message, Tonto further criticised the practice of body-shaming in modern society.

“Body shaming in 2024???? That’s quite unsophisticated,” she added.

Her post sparked a variety of reactions from her followers, many of whom offered their own perspectives on the damaging effects of body-shaming.

Tonto’s remarks follow a similar incident involving actress Kate Henshaw.

On September 17, Kate posted a video on Twitter (now X), dancing at the gym with a colleague.

While many followers praised the video, one user mocked Kate’s body, calling her “flat yansh” and making a comment about her gym outfit.

A follower quickly intervened, criticising the comment as “a stupid, backhanded comment” and urging the user to apologise.

Kate, unbothered by the remark, thanked the follower and dismissed the need for an apology.
