Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and formerly one-half of the defunct Psquare duo, has congratulated Nigeria international Ademola Lookman on winning the African Player of the Year award at the 2024 CAF Awards.
Peter shared a photo of Lookman on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption, “WINNING SEASON 🙌🏾🎖️🏆🏅🥇Big Congratulations to @molalookman.”
Lookman was honoured at the award ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night.
In his acceptance speech, he greeted Nigerians in Yoruba and reflected on his journey saying, “Just over four years ago, I failed in front of the world. Fast forward four years, I’m the best player in Africa.”
The Atalanta forward dedicated the award to his teammates, family and fans, highlighting their role in his success.
Lookman played a key role in Atalanta’s impressive Serie A campaign and Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
His consistent brilliance, including a historic hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final, has cemented his place among Africa’s brightest football stars.
He edged out tough competition, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy and South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, to claim the prestigious award.
In October, Lookman was the only African player to feature in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, finishing 14th.
His hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in May ended the Bundesliga champions’ 51-match unbeaten run, a feat that further underlined his status as one of football’s elite performers.
