Actor Chimezie Imo has opened up about his experience in the Nollywood industry, expressing his desire to work with actors Genevieve Nnaji and Gabriel Afolayan.
Chimezie shared this during an exclusive interview with QEDNG at the premiere of Toyin Abraham’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee, held on Sunday at Imax Cinema, Lagos.
The Breath of Life star reflected on his journey into major blockbuster films saying, “I have just been working, and I love to work. So yea.”
Speaking on his critically acclaimed role as Elijah in Breath of Life and the process behind it, Chimezie credited director BB Sasore for guiding him through the character’s development.
“For me, I always say the director is the captain of the ship, and if he doesn’t have the right head on his shoulder, then the entire ship will sink. I’m so glad we had one of the best directors I’ve worked with in Nollywood, BB Sasore.
“We had conversations almost every day. I would tell him what I thought; he would tell me what he thought and we would argue until we started to know who Elijah was. My job was just to be him and not act like him,” he said.
When asked about roles he would love to play, Chimezie revealed his fascination with playing unconventional characters.
“I would like to play a superhero. I’ve always imagined what it would be like to have a superhero in Nigeria. I would also like to be mute in a film. I would like to see how that plays out,” the 32-year-old added.
On actors he dreams of collaborating with, Chimezie made a passionate appeal to Genevieve Nnaji.
“Genevieve Nnaji, pick my call, pick my call. I would like to work with her; I think she is our treasure. There are tons of them. I would like to do something more with Gabriel Afolayan. I think he is fantastic, one of my favourite actors.”
The star-studded movie premiere also saw the likes of Iyabo Ojo, Bimbo Ademoye, Rotimi Salami, Kie Kie, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Ajeyemi Kolawole, Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola, Odunlade Adekola and Moyo Lawal in attendance.
