It takes a smart village to make a good film – Judith Audu

Film producer Judith Audu has shared her experiences as a producer and highlighted what it takes to make a film.

Judith spoke at the graduation ceremony of the KAP Film and Television Academy’s Advanced Filmmaking Masterclass, a three-week intensive program organised in partnership with the French Embassy.

The graduating students produced four short films: Christmas Eve, The Culprit, Photoshoot and Silent Hunger.

Commending the students for their efforts Judith said, “Coming from the point of a producer, my job is to make sure that from start to finish, you have a product. And you do have a product, whether the product is good or bad, it’s a product.

“Something that may look good to someone else may be bad to someone else. What makes you a filmmaker is that you have a film.”

Encouraging the students to keep improving she added, “I hope to see more works from you, more amazing works. I’m not gonna judge you because I don’t think any filmmaker is ever proud of their first work; they just get better over time. The thing is to keep doing it.”

Judith, who was one of the facilitators of the program, emphasised the collaborative nature of filmmaking. “Like I always say, it always takes a village to make a film, but it takes a smart village to make a good film.”

Other facilitators for the masterclass included actress Bimbo Akintola, screenwriter Tunde Babalola and veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani.

The event ended with the presentation of certificates to participants and a cocktail reception to celebrate their achievements.
