Entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has warned that he will release information about senior lawyer Afe Babalola if human rights activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi is not granted bail by Friday.

Charly Boy made this statement on Thursday on his Instagram page, expressing anger over Farotimi’s prolonged detention.

He wrote, “If dem no release Dele on bail tomorrow, we are going to go ballistic with the information we have on Are Babalola.

“We won’t be playing dis time. Enough of dis nonsense. Dia father’s.”

Farotimi was arrested in Lagos following a defamation petition filed by Afe Babalola, which alleged that Farotimi accused him of bribing Supreme Court judges to secure favourable judgments.

The claim was made in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.

The activist was arraigned on December 4 at a Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti before Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun on a 16-count charge, including cybercrime and libel.

Farotimi pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Despite pleading not guilty, the court ordered his remand at a correctional facility pending further hearings.

The court set stringent bail conditions, including a N50 million bond, a surety of equal value who must reside in Ekiti State with landed property and the surrender of his travel passport.

The bail application was adjourned to December 20, leaving Farotimi in custody.
