President Bola Tinubu has honoured Dr. Biodun Shobanjo, a leading figure in Nigeria’s advertising and marketing communications industry, on his 80th birthday.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the president praised Shobanjo as a trailblazer whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the sector.
Tinubu commended his decades of dedication, innovation and leadership, describing him as a source of inspiration for professionals across the country.
“Dr. Shobanjo’s remarkable journey as a broadcaster, entrepreneur and advertising guru exemplifies discipline, integrity and dedication,” the statement said.
Shobanjo began his illustrious career at the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation before joining Grant Advertising in 1971 where he rose to the position of deputy managing director.
In 1980, he took a bold step by founding Insight Communications, a firm that revolutionised Nigeria’s advertising landscape.
Under Shobanjo’s leadership, Insight grew into a marketing powerhouse, spawning Quadrant, the country’s first public relations consultancy, and All Seasons Mediacom, its first media-independent company.
He later consolidated these entities under the Troyka Organisation which also includes Halogen Security founded in 1992.
Tinubu acknowledged Shobanjo’s pivotal role in advancing marketing communications, a sector he noted is crucial for driving economic growth and social development.
“His visionary contributions have fostered progress not only within the industry but across Nigeria’s broader development landscape,” the statement said.
The president also expressed confidence in Shobanjo’s ability to continue mentoring young professionals, emphasising the need for adherence to best practices rooted in truth, transparency and the promotion of local content.
“His legacy stands as a beacon of excellence and a source of inspiration for generations to come,” the statement said.
