Police refusal to release Speed Darlington Is disrespect to Judiciary – Deji Adeyanju

Lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has criticised the Nigerian police for refusing to release rapper Speed Darlington despite a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja granting him bail on Monday.

Speed Darlington has been in custody since November 27, following his re-arrest by police in Owerri, Imo State.

His initial arrest in October was linked to a petition filed against him by fellow musician Burna Boy.

The court reportedly granted the rapper unconditional bail, requiring only that his legal team present the ruling to the police legal department.

The department was then expected to forward it to the Force Investigation Department (FID), where Speed Darlington is detained.

While the legal team has fulfilled this requirement, the police are yet to comply with the court order, prolonging his detention.

Reacting to the situation on his X account on Thursday, Adeyanju accused the police of undermining the judiciary.

“The Nigerian Police have refused to release Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI despite the explicit order of the Federal High Court to do so. This is the highest form of disrespect to the judiciary,” he wrote.
