Social media critic VeryDarkMan has called for the arrest of Raheem Okoya, son of billionaire Rasaq Okoya, over allegations of naira abuse, insisting that the law should apply equally to everyone.
In a six-minute video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, the social media influencer reacted to a viral clip showing Raheem mishandling the naira while a police officer stood by.
Although the police officer has since been arrested, Raheem has yet to face any legal consequences.
Expressing his concerns, VeryDarkMan emphasised that accountability should not be influenced by social status.
He noted that while Raheem has issued an apology, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Drawing on his own recent arrest for wearing a police uniform—despite apologising—he argued that apologies alone cannot absolve individuals from the law.
VeryDarkMan compared the situation to cases involving Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest, both of whom faced repercussions for naira abuse.
He stated, “The law in Nigeria is for everyone, whether you’re rich or poor.”
Recounting the incident he said, “Yesterday, a video became popular that showed Raheem Okoya, a wealthy man’s son, bribing a police officer. Following the video’s spread, they started to mutilate the naira.” He further alleged that the police officer’s compliance was tied to financial inducement.
VeryDarkMan criticised the disparity in treatment, insisting that forcing Raheem to apologise was insufficient.
He stated, “There’s no separate law for the rich. If the law is for the poor, it should also apply to the rich.”
He captioned the post, “After this post I will be waiting to see @officialefcc reaction to this, there is no ignorance in law,the law is not only for the poor,so the son of that Lagos state billionaire must go to court, bobrisky went, cubana chief priest went in for naira mutilation so he has to go.
“That apology to the police doesn’t stand because I once apologized to the @nigeriapoliceforce and the next day I was detained at SARS and was taking to court the next day,so that okoya son no get two head….the law no be only for poor man. I WILL BE WATCHING IF WE TRULY GET LAW FOR NIGERIA”
VeryDarkman’s remarks have fueled online discussions, with many social media users echoing his demand for justice and condemning the perceived double standards in enforcing Nigerian laws.
